Background
Software engineering came first, 8 years of it. What kept me there was seeing people use something I built. DevOps is that same reward one step back, helping the engineers who build those things for everyone else.
At a payments company I run the developer platform: CI/CD, deployment, AI tooling and the migrations teams rely on. Build times came down 67%, from over 60 minutes to 20. I led the migration of 297 serverless stacks owned by 13 teams. The cloud optimization work saves $33K a month, with uptime holding above 99.95% on fintech systems.
The other half of the job is people. I mentor engineers in 12 global teams, run company-wide tech talks and coordinate the migrations that touch everyone. I am also on the weekly on-call rotation.
The best infrastructure is invisible to developers. It works, it scales and it keeps out of the way so teams can get on with what they are building.
